the Record Player

Let the music flow like sand through an hourglass.

Rediscover the ritual of listening.
The Record Player transforms album playback into a focused, immersive experience - a musical hourglass. It spins a single album at 33 1/3 RPM, letting you measure time not by minutes, but by mood.

Whether you?re commuting, working out, going to sleep, focussing on work or simply unwinding, The Record Player turns focus into rhythm - an album-long groove to frame the moment. It's not a playlist. It's not shuffle. It's one album, start to finish.

What Can You Play?

  • Local Library: MP3s stored in your iTunes library? We'll spin those - complete with the scratches and pops you forgot were there.
  • Apple Music: We'll spin albums you've added to your library.
  • Napster: Link your Napster account to rediscover old favorites.

The Record Player adds spatial magic to your music. Watch the virtual album spin in 3D, or - if you're curious - double-tap outside the album to drop it into your physical space using Augmented Reality (AR). It will stay where you placed it, still playing, even as you walk around the house and come back to where you started the app.

While casual listeners might never use it, this feature is an active demonstration of Apple's spatial AR frameworks - created as a showcase for engineers, product leaders, and anyone exploring ambient interface design.

In line with SIME Corp's innovative ethos, the Record Player is more than just an app; it's an exploration into what can be done with an "hourglass of music." We invite users to join us as we experiment with virtual vinyl, blending nostalgia with modern technology.

What We Learned with the Record Player:

  • Spatial UI: Rotating a full 3D vinyl at 33 1/3 RPM without dropped frames? SceneKit still delivers.
  • Siri Integration: Try "Hey Siri, spin some vinyl."
  • AR Anchoring Demo: Double-tap outside the record to pin it to physical space - a live demonstration of persistent object anchoring.

This fusion of the old and the new celebrates the timeless appeal of vinyl, bridging the gap between the analog warmth of yesteryears and the dynamic possibilities of today's technology.
